Oh, I'm a lumberjack, and I'm okay,
I sleep all night and I work all day.

I cut down trees, I eat my lunch,
I go to the lava-try.
On Wednesdays I go shoppin'
And have buttered scones for tea.

Officially trained as a molecular neurobiologist, I'm currently employed as a software engineer at Elastic. I've written a number articles about Elasticsearch, and am the co-author of Elasticsearch - The Definitive Guide. At work, I maintain the Elasticsearch-PHP Client and work on Core Elasticsearch.

In my free time, I like to read papers about time series analysis, approximate “sketching” algorithms, fiddle with Rust and learn how lock-free data-structures work (Turbine, Bounded-SPSC-Queue)

I like to dip into many different hobbies…it's a known character flaw. For example, I recently sewed myself an ultra-light, waterproof backpack for day-hikes. I also enjoy bird photography, cigars and cabinetry, woodworking of various sorts (Maple and Malachite engagement box), astrophotography and restoring old axes.
